Niels Diffrient’s “World chair”
Niels Diffrient’s “World chair” marks Humanscale‘s first foray into all-mesh task seating. Like its mesh-backed forerunner, Liberty, the World chair’s tri-panel backrest hugs the body to provide tailor-made lumbar support, while its mesh seat eliminates contact stress under the thighs. But World’s major innovation is its mechanism-free recline action, which leverages two parts of the chair’s frame and the laws of physics to provide automatic, balanced support throughout the full range of recline. No chair is more intuitive, creating the ultimate user-friendly sitting experience. It is built for long-term sustainability: it is effective, functional and yet only contains 80 pieces – less than a third of the parts used in the construction of traditional chairs. Few parts, few control mechanisms and therefore little reason to damage the seat by using it. This is a work chair that performs perfectly the symbiosis between “ease of use and performance of a dynamic work seat.”
